Words for the days you have none
Prayers
Some days the hardest part of praying is finding the first sentence. These pages offer one: a prayer for a specific weight — worry that will not settle, strength that has run out, a guilt that will not lift — written plainly enough to pray as it stands, or to start from and make your own.
A prayer can ask for things Scripture never promised, so each one here sets out the passages it leans on and what they actually say. They are quoted in full, in the English Standard Version and the King James Version, so you can see for yourself that the prayer is asking for what the text offers and nothing it does not.
Pray them slowly. Change the words. The point was never the phrasing.
- PrayerPrayer for StrengthMost prayers for strength ask to be made unbreakable. The passages underneath them tend to offer something else, and it is more useful.
- PrayerPrayer for AnxietyMost prayers about anxiety ask for the feeling to stop. The passages underneath them more often offer somewhere to put it.
- PrayerPrayer for ForgivenessMost prayers for forgiveness end up trying to prove how sorry they are. The passages underneath them put the weight somewhere else.
